CFARM is the Cacao Farmers Association Rattanakiri & Mondulkiri (សមាគមកសិករដាំកាកាវរតនៈគិរី មណ្ឌលគិរី), a non-profit association of smallholder cacao farmers in Cambodia's northeastern highlands. It was founded in June 2019 and has its head office in Mondulkiri.
Kamkav Farm's partner beans come from CFARM members, fermented and dried alongside our own harvest.
Its statutes set out four aims:
CFARM is independent of any political party and open to every Cambodian citizen aged 18 or over, regardless of ethnicity or religion. It works for its members, not for profit.
Members farm plots of 0.5 to 5 hectares. They meet every quarter in Sre Ampom, Mondulkiri, to share what they have learned about pruning, fermentation and sustainable farming, and they bring their harvest to a shared fermentation centre in Sre Ampom run together with Kamkav Farm, so every lot is fermented and dried to the same standard.
Members meet once a year in a General Assembly, which elects the board for a five-year term. The board meets every month.
In 2021 CFARM served as Cambodia's official National Organisation Committee for the Cacao of Excellence awards, the international competition that recognises the world's best cacao. Through it, Cambodian farmers could enter their beans.
Members plant cacao alongside native shade trees, fruit trees and companion plants, following the shade-grown polyculture the Bunong and Kreung communities already practise. It keeps the soil healthy, protects biodiversity, and helps restore land affected by deforestation. With Kamkav Farm's support, members have planted 10,000 trees so far.
